About NEET

Neet is a new Social Enterprise that builds on a solid foundation of 17 years project development of social care for people with learning disabilities at Northcliffe Nurseries.

In 1992 a small group of service users together with 1 support worker from a local Day Centre established a gardening project, known as Northcliffe Nurseries on a neglected allotment site in Shipley, West Yorkshire. Over the past 17 years, the group of service users has now increased to 22 and together with three support staff they have now reclaimed and developed 10 plots on the site, erected buildings and poly-tunnels, installed a kitchen and CCTV, built a pond, installed an irrigation system, planted an orchard, a vegetable garden and more, and have developed a plant sales business with a turnover in excess of £10,000.

There is an annual horticultural growing plan detailing contract work, recycling, conservation, site maintenance and development with activities ranging from plant propagation, summer bedding, vegetable production and sales, to barbecues and community events. The expansion of this programme and the development of additional retail outlets will further increase opportunities and revenue.
